At Sea

February 17, 2015
We had another day of sea birding. Beautiful water and clouds. Some rain. I saw six different kinds of albatross today. Others saw eight. Hundreds of Black-browed Albatross glided by, their wings not moving, seeming to expend no energy.

This might have been the day I got a little seasick.  I wore the Scopolamine patch for the next week.

My Bird List:

Northern Royal Albatross
Southern Royal Albatross
Antipodean (Wandering) Albatross
Snowy (Wandering) Albatross
Black-browed Albatross (100s)
Salvin’s Albatross
Southern Giant-Petrel
White-chinned Petrel
Sooty Shearwater
Red Phalarope
Mammals:  Blue Whale, Dusky Dolphin (over 100), Killer Whale

Sometimes I just wasn’t on deck. And sometimes other observers were just more skilled at seeing the birds. They saw:

Buller’s Albatross, Northern Giant-Petrel, Stejneger’s Petrel, Pink-footed Shearwater, Wilson’s Storm-Petrel, Gray-backed Storm-Petrel, Chilean Skua
